RICASA, TO JOIN AUICK SEMINAR
Lorely Ricasa, Engineer I of the Environment Sanitation and Management Office (ESMO) of the Olongapo City Government will go to Kobe, Japan to attend the First 2008 Asian Urban Information Center of Kobe (AUICK) Seminar Workshop on Population and Environment Management in Urban Planning – Domestic Waste and Greening on May 28 to June 7, 2008.
In line with Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr.’s aspirations to further strengthen the integration of population, environment and poverty eradication factors in the sustainable policies, plans and programs of Olongapo, Ricasa was chosen to participate in the said AUICK seminar.
The seminar will focus on improved knowledge to address the urban policy implications of the links between population processes and environmental problems, especially domestic waste and greening. AUICK seminar likewise aims to deepen the participants’ understanding and know-how on the theme through presentations, case studies, discussions on current states and challenges their cities face in the fields of domestic waste and greening.
Meanwhile, among the invited cities are Chittagong (Bangladesh), Weihai (China), Chennai (India), Surabaya (Indonesia), Kuantan (Malaysia), Faisalaban (Pakistan), Olongapo (Philippines), Khon Kaen (Thailand), and Danang (Vietnam). Each city is represented by one participant, including Ricasa as the representative of Olongapo City.
The participation of Ricasa in the said seminar is part of the city’s privileges being one of AUICK’s associate cities. AUICK is an international cooperation non-governmental organization which was established in 1989 with the support of the United Nations Population Fund and the Kobe City Government. The organization aims to build extensive human networks with medium-sized cities in Asia as a means to assist in the resolution of population and urban problems. PAO/jpb
