HEALTH ADVISORY ON MEXICAN SWINE FLU

The Department of Health (DOH) has advised the public that there is no incidence yet of swine flu affecting humans in the Philippines.

In connection with this, Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. has instructed the City Health Office (CHO) to properly inform the public on the symptoms and precautionary measures released by DOH.

“Our office is coordinating with the different Barangay Health Centers to be on the alert,” CHO Head Dr. Arnildo Tamayo said. “They are also instructed to quarantine any individual who may appear to have the symptoms especially “balikbayans” who just arrived in the country,” he added.

Symptoms of this virus include fever, body pain, sore throat, cough and flu, diarrhea and vomiting.

According to the DOH health advisory, “people should cover their nose and mouth with tissue when coughing or sneezing, wash their hands regularly with soap and water especially after coughing or sneezing, and avoid close contact with sick people or crowded places.”

“A sick or feverish person should be closely monitored and stay at home to limit contact with others. When the fever and flu persists, doctors should be consulted immediately.”

“We are advising the public to still observe the preventive measures to avoid possible contraction and to dissuade panic,” the Mayor stressed.
