Photojournalism for the youth held at Subic

The Subic Bay Photography Society (SBPS) recently held a one-day lecture on "Photojournalism for the Youth" in Olongapo City. Conducted by SBPS co-founder Roy Van Morales with Cleo Roda Nodado as organizer, the activity was part of the organization’s objective of sharing photography skills to others, particularly the youth around the area.

The lecture started off with a presentation of various images about photojournalism at McDonald's participated in by young individuals together with their parents. A nearby city park was the next stop where participants, together with other club members, had the chance to take images of eyesore and other unpleasant things.

At first, the young participants and their parents were all excited to be in the park to shoot. But as they stayed longer, they realized how unpleasant the place was. Vandalism was very evident almost everywhere. The slides and swings were dilapidated and rusty, making it quite dangerous for kids to play. The comfort room was also padlocked and damaged.

The SBPS organizers have already called the attention of the local leaders about the devastating condition of the city park to support their high hopes of restoring the lost splendor of the place.

The SBPS regularly conducts lectures to the youth that will help and build them become better citizens, role models, and future leaders of the country. Moreover, SBPS is now recognized by the Department of Tourism (DoT) Region III under Director Ronnie Tiotuico. mb.com.ph
